After failing to close the World Series in Game 6, the Texas Rangers will have another opportunity to defeat the St Louis Cardinals as the World Series Game 7 winner take all showdown will unfold at Busch Stadium Friday night.
Without a doubt, the tides turned in favor of the Cardinals as they have the homefield advantage in Game 7. Furthermore, they can play with their ace pitcher Chris Carpenter to seal the deal in this contentious World Series.
There were two chances for the Rangers for a strike away of winning the World Series but it never materialized as the batters of the Cardinals never gave up the ghost.
It was a fantastic Game 6 for the Cardinals when they are trailing 7-5 in the eight inning when Allen Craig made that home run. After his home run with the bases loaded, Cardinals eventually didn’t manage to take the opportunity.
It seemed the the Texas Rangers will go home with the victory as they enter into the ninth inning but they didn’t score to make the gap bigger. St Louis Cardinals had three outs left to make a comeback when David Freese drilled in a triple allowing Albert Pujols and Lance Berkman to score, 7-7.
Ninth inning was all about the Cardinals beating the best closer of the Rangers Neftali Feliz who was expected to make the save but he failed to deliver for the Rangers most important game.
Game 6 went to extra innings that made it all for the Cardinals to force Game 7. However, Rangers Josh Hamilton pulled off a two run shot that placed the Rangers on top 9-7. Another chance for Texas to close it with their pitcher but… Score was 9-8 with who outs and two strikes for Lance Berkman as he singled for Jon Jay to score making the score, 9-9.
In the 11th inning, Texas Rangers didn’t score at all the put the advantage to the Cardinals. David Freese delivered the 11th inning walkoff homerun as the crowd went wild for a 10-9 Game 6 victory for the Cardinals, Series tied at 3-3.
World Series Game 7 is here as both teams will give up everything just to win this game. Freese and Berkman are very important players for the Cardinals to make the significant output. If these two players will have yet another explosions, then the Cardinals will have the opportunity to capture the World Series.
The Rangers will have to worry not only on the explosiveness of Albert Pujols but Freese and Berkman can deliver the necessary offense to make sure that the Cardinals will score in this game.
One of the advantage of the Cardinals will be the starting pitcher Carpenter who will be playing in Game 7 because of the Game 6 postponement that enabled him to have the rest. Carpenter’s record in this postseason is 3-0 with 3.30 ERA in the last five starts. He yielded two runs and six hits in Game 5 with 101 pitches last Monday.
However, his previous appearance in a three day’s rest will not provide us the best of Carpenter. He yielded four runs and five hits in 2005 against the Phillies in Game 2 of the NLDS. Now that he is older, this may not be a big advantage for the Cardinals.
Manager Tony La Russa will have options just in case Carpenter will not last long. Kyle Lohse will be available but his 0-2 record will not suffice for La Russa to hand him the ball.
On the other hand, the Texas Rangers will have still the last ditch opportunity to win the World Series. Rangers have the high powered offense but the bullpen will have to make the victory if this game will be tight until the end.
Don’t forget the name Mike Napoli for he can be at his best in this World Series Game 7. We all know that without the heroics of Napoli in Game 4 and 5, the Rangers are not in this Game 7. Napoli still is the bright spot for the Rangers offense as he already had 10 RBI’s which is tied third most in a single World Series.
Expect also for Nelson Cruz to make this day tougher for Carpenter. Cruz can break the most homers in a single postseason today if he can make one home run.
Ron Washington knows what is at stake in the World Series Game 7. He must push the right buttons for his team to be victorious. However, it may still lingers on the minds of the Rangers that a year ago, they were in elimination game against the Giants. Now it is a winner takes all World Series Game 7 that the Rangers must have to win.
Rangers will start left hander Matt Harrison for the World Series Game 7. He has a extra day off to prepare for this Game 7. If he can contain the offense of the Cardinals, then he will give a chance for the Rangers to win.
