World Series Game 4: Rangers 4-0 win

By

Derek Holland completely tamed the offense of the St Louis Cardinals to help the Rangers in a 4-0 victory in Game 4 of the World Series.

It looks like a battle of pitchers in the first six innings but before it ended pitcher Edwin Jackson walked Nelson Cruz followed by another on David Murphy. With men in the second and third bases, one out, Tony Larussa may have made a mistake in taking out Jackson by bringing in reliever Mitchell Boggs.

On his first pitch, Mike Napoli drilled in a homer that shocked the whole St Louis team, making the score to 4-0 for the Rangers. The crowd went wild for that unexpected homer by Napoli

The Rangers lead 4-0 at the bottom of the seventh inning. It is significant for the Rangers to play well in the next two innings. Furthermore, Derek Holland has his best in pitching so far with 95 pitch counts. He has all the chance to have a complete game unless the Cardinals make the move.

Pre Game

The Saint Louis Cardinals have displayed a magnificent Game 3 through the amazing performance of Albert Pujols when he drilled in three home runs en route to a 16-7 road victory. The World Series advantage goes to the Cardinals having also the homecourt advantage.

St Louis matched the second most runs with 16 in the World Series history. After suffering a ninth inning collapse in Game 2, the Cardinals pulled off a whooping 16-7 advantage.

Aside from joining Babe Ruth and Reggie Jackson as the only players to hit three homers in a World Series game, Pujols also matched a single record six RBI’s with Hideki Matsui in 2009 and Bobby Richardson in 1960.

Pujols grabbed the attention of Game 3 but he may not be the hero again in Game 4. As of the moment, the most consistent player for the Cardinals is Allen Craig who delivered an RBI single in the first two game that changed the complexion of the games. He again drilled in a homer last Saturday that paved the way for all the players of the Cardinals to be hot, most especially Pujols.

Furthermore, the Cardinals will not rely on Pujols. The team has Yadier Molino who drove in four runs while David Freese batted 2 for 4 with two RBI’s. The NL championship series MVP, Freese is batting .457 (21 for 46) with 16 RBIs during a 13-game postseason hitting streak. Will Freese play another superb game?
