The Japanese Women’s soccer team outlasted USA in penalty kicks 3-1 to grab the FIFA Women’s World Cup title after a tied game in extra time at 2-2. The Japanese team won the shootout through the saving performance of their goal keeper Kaihori who save two kicks from the United States.
It was a night of patience for the Japanese team when they were outplayed in the first 80 minutes of the game until they found a way to slow down the USA team. The game went on extra time but eventually ended in a shootout. Japan scored from Miyama, Sagakuchi, and Kumagai to seal the game. While the United States score in the shootout came only from Wambach.
With determination, Wambach with a routine header at the near post following a good cross from the left scored the second goal for the United States in the extra time. Wamback has been missing those kicks in the regulation but eventually went in sneaking through the weak defense of Japan. With weariness in the body language of the American players, still they managed to play courageously against the tight defense of the Japanese team.
Alex Morgan fired the first goal at the 69th minutes that provides them the comfortable lead knowing the stringent defense they use to topple Japan. However, USA made a mistake in a dangerous cross that wasn’t cleared properly. Miyama stabs the ball and tied the game 1-1.
Wambach scored in the 102th minutes of the extra time to make the score 2-1. It looked like the United States have in control of the game as they defended well in the next minutes until Sawa sent the ball to the goal passing through Solo to tie the game at 2-2. United States defended the game in a controlled manner but still Japan was reluctant to go away.
The two teams played gutsy games throwing everything they know to win the game. But we all know that all games has an end like this game between USA and Japan.
As for the Japanese team, they superbly came back goal after goal. They had been patient to match the strength of the United States. Japan provided the toughness and courage that US have never encountered before.
