US Open 2011 results: Novak Djokovic wins in just 44 minutes

It is not a surprise for Novak Djokovic to win but for him to be a victor in 44 minutes of play creates questions on how he did it. Top-seeded Djokovic started with a 6-0 domination in the first set and 5-1 in the second set in the first round of US Open before his opponent retired.

Djokovic showed to the world that he is here to win a major title by winning the first seven games and eventually captured the last 16 points when his opponent Conor Niland retired because of injury. Niland had been struggling that he couldn’t last longer enough to give a fight against Djokovic.

With the expectations of many that Djokovic shoulder can cause him to lose, but his movements showed no signs of ailing shoulder that allowed him to be defeated in the Cincinnati Masters last August 21.

Djokovic is set to win another major as he already grabbed the Wimbledon and the Australian Open, evading him the French Open in which Rafael Nadal is the king. Winning 58 out 60 in this year alone catapulted him as the no 1 player in the world surpassing Nadal and Roger Federer.

In the women’s side, Caroline Wozniacki continues to play with determination as seek for his first major title when she beat Nuria Llagostera Vives 6-3, 6-1 for her to move to the second round.

Wozniacki readiness not to be denied her first major title was evident when she landed 62 percent of her first serves that kept Vives in surprise. Hitting 17 winners also created the difficulties of her opponent defend and make her volley. Though Wozniacki made numbers of unforced errors, she manage to collect herself and put her mind into the game.

As the world’s top-ranked player, Wozniacki wasn’t bothered that much by Vives who made 33 of 63 first serves and 28 unforced errors. Wozniacki has enough power to playing in the second round as she keeps her quest alive in the US Open 2011.

Fifth-seeded David Ferrer desires to be a contender in the US Open was almost derailed when he was outplayed by Igor Andreev in the first set but he pulled of a rally by winning the next three sets.

Ferrer came through with 2-6, 6-3, 6-0, 6-4 to advance to the second round of the US Open. Though he had 14 unforced errors in the first set in which he dropped, he alleviated it with only 24 in the next three sets.
