Tour de France Stage 14. Frank and Andy Schleck are ready to dethrone the three time tour champion Alberto Contador in the Tour de France 2011 as they are up in the individual GC standings. Frank Schleck showed to the all the riders that he can be the darkhorse of the competition and that he can win this whole thing as he maneuvered himself higher in the standings in stage 12.
The stage 12 provided as the glimpse of who the strong man is and it was very evident that Contador is not in a good shape as he was left behind by Frank Schleck then eventually by Andy Schleck, Cadel Evans, and eve Ivan Basso. Contador’s was very vulnerable that he couldn’t keep up with the acceleration of the group. He countered the attacks of the Schleck brothers but at the end he showed weakness that the Schleck brothers took advantage.
Saint-Gaudens to Plateau de Beille covers 168.5 km will be the last Pyrenees test for the riders and it will be another measurement for Contador if he really can be with his rivals on top of this mountain. Stage 14 has six tough summit that could create the weariness for the cyclists. The Col de Portet-d’Aspet, the Col de la Core, the Col de Latrape, the Col d’Agnes, the Port de Lers and the finish at the Plateau de Beille will wear and tear the stamina of the riders but the question is who will reach the finish line first.
One of the big names that rides with such strength in this year’s tour is Ivan Basso with 3′ 16″ behind the leader Thomas Voeckler. Basso has the acceleration that can match the Schleck brothers based on his performance in the past two stages. Meanwhile, Voeckler might have enough lead to make himself a contender against Contador and Schleck’s. Contador is four minutes behind Voeckler and 2’11″ of Frank Schleck.
Tour de France Stage 14 terrain can completely change the Tour de France overall standings. The world waits for Contador to attack at the ascent to Plateau de Beille. Can he do it? Tour de France stage 14 results will impact the standings dramatically.
