Stoke City vs FC Thun: Kickoff time and analysis
Stoke City seeks to overthrow FC Thun for the second time in the UEFA League this year. Stoke pulled off a 1-0 victory against FC Thun in Switzerland in last week’s game that paved for a more contentious game today.
What to expect in this game? Previously, the game was not considered domination by Stoke City for FC Thun had all the chances in the world to tie. We can call it a tight much with defense the priority of both teams. Stoke will be making adjustments on the offensive side and probably keep the game in a fast pace so that the defense of Thun couldn’t match.
Stoke City has been consistent on their last three games in the Europa League that a win against FC Thun will let them advance for the group stage. Surely Stoke City has the capability to duplicate their win because of the quality of their offensive plays and their mounted defense that can produce another goalless game for the FC Thun.
On the other hand, FC Thun can stun the Stoke City for they have the players that can match in both sides of the game. It is the pride of Bernard Challandes team to be on top of the Swiss Super League that the players will respond according to the needs of the team. They can potentially create an upset that will make Stoke City’s morale low.
FC Thun was tough in defense that they can make the game tiresome for Stoke City. The team knows how to win games and when their back is against the wall, they can make the necessary response. Thun is not going down easily in this game and it would be unwise if Tony Pulis will just treat this game lightly.
Manager Pulis has the luxury of players to use as the game progresses. Evidently in the first leg, he had the flexibilities on his approach in the offense and defense. If the focus is in the game, they will just win this game without too much concerns.
For deeper rosters, Matthew Upson will be playing at home for the first time to cover the defense. Absolutely, Pulis has all the pieces to move just to beat FC Thun. For Pulis, applying the same formula he used in the previous game is an option but using them at the right time can be the better practice. However, it may not be safe to be using the same tactics because the opponent studied that game last week and they can make adjustments.
David da Costa will not be playing in this game for suspension following the first leg. But his replacement Dragan Djukic can be as effective as him if his mind will be in the game stopping and denying potential goals.
