Plaxico Burress to the New York Jets

By

In the NFL Free Agency 2011, the New York Jets acquired Plaxico Burress, former Giants wide receiver who went to prison for 20 months was eligible that the Jet didn’t take too long to decide.

The Jets pursuit of a wide receiver will surely enhance their offensive with Santonio Holmes playing longside with his former Pittsburgh Steelers. Burress was instrumental in that game winning touchdown in the Super Bowl against the New England Patriots.

According to reports, before signing with the Jets he also went to the New York Giants as one of the possibilities. The Jets aggressively wanted him that much that they will take the risk of whatever negative things he can create if there is.

The risks of getting Burress would be the fact that he hasn’t played for almost two years. Furthermore, he will be turning 34 year of age on August 12 that age might be a factor.

The Jets move will increase the productivity of their passing game with well known wide receivers playing side by side. The build up being made by the Jets will surely a sign to the football world that the teams goal is to win the Super Bowl.

Again, we will about to see the rivalry of the Jets and Patriots intensify as the acquisition of both teams to top caliber wide receiver tells that they are declaring war in the NFL. Quarterback Mark Sanchez will absolutely be more effective as Burress and Holmes are ready to catch his passes.

Burress career was on hold when he was in trouble with gun charges the the Giants was left behind without him after they won the Super Bowl. He will be a great addition to the Jets.

We will about to witness another rivalry that will produce great games. The New York Jets are preparing themselves to a season filled with expectations. This time the team’s desire is not only to play AFC championship game but the Super Bowl which evaded them the last two years.

However, still the Jets biggest team to battle in which pride and glory are at stake is the New England Patriots. Retaining Holmes and acquiring Burress are not the sure passes to the Super Bowl as other teams made the upgrade needed necessarily to compete and to win games and enter deeper in the playoffs. Still the measuring stick for the Jets will be their two games against the New England Patriots that has also wide receiver Chad Ochocinco in this NFL Free Agency.

We should expect not only war of word but a real war in the football field. Which team has now the edge? We don’t know until we see these two teams play at their best.

Plaxico Buress signed a one year contract worth $3.017 million according to reports. Though he still cannot go into practice because of NFL rules, he will be in the team practice on Thursday. Plaxico Burres will impact the Jets offense immediately.

Furthermore in the NFL Free Agency, Albert Haynesworth joined the New England Patriots practice by passing the conditioning test. Haynesworth was one of the New England’s moves to tighten their defense.
