Webb Simpson wins it all the Wyndham Championship

By

Webb Simpson never looked back when he relinquished the lead in the third round as he kept it in the final round of to capture the Wyndham Championship 2011 title. He tackled the course with precision and determination.

Simpson pulled off a bogeyless performance, three birdies and 15 pars, to distance himself from the his nearest competitors. What made Simpson wins the Wyndham Championship was his third round score at 6-under par. There’s nobody that had a performance like his in that third round that he had a two strokes lead.

Webb Simpson drilled in all the possible par saving holes in the final round that paved the way for him to stay atop the PGA leaderboard. He was poise enough to stay high in his game despite the pressure mounted by other golfers. His mind was focused to win this tournament by making adjustments in his second shots to have himself a chance in putting birdies.

Simpson birdied the ninth, 15th, and 16th holes for him to have a 3-under par 67 final round, enough to keep his lead and win the Wyndham Championship. He laboriously toiled avoiding miscalculations in the last 31 holes of the tournament.

George McNeill came in second place shooting the best performance of the day at 6-under pard 64, 14-under par for the tournament. McNeil had six birdies and 12 pars to complete the final round. He almost mounted a comeback but Simpson knew what to score in each of the hole as he is the last in the course. McNeil played a solid performance that almost let him win the Wyndham Championship.

Coming in third place is the second round leader Tommy Gainey who struggled in the final round at only 1-under par, finishing 14-under par. He had two bogeys and a birdie in the front nine while he double bogeyed the 11th hole, he bounced back by four consecutive birdies at 12th, 13th, 14th, and 15th holes. Gainey never played the perfect day to put pressure on Simpson as they were paired.

Vijay Singh finished the Wyndham Champioship tied at fourth place, shooting 5-under par for the day, 13-under par for the tournament. Singh is one of the notable players in this Wyndham Championship but he never came up on top of the PGA leaderboard. He managed to have five birdies, a bogey, and the rest pars to earned him fourth place in which many players tied him.

One of the players expected to be on top of PGA leaderboard was Jerry Kelly who played magnificently in the final round yet it was not enough for him to win it all. Instead he settled for fourth place also. He drilled in 6 birdies, a bogey, and 12 pars to make him 5-under for the day. He played with such precision in the last four holes making it all birdies.

Moreover Kyung-tae Kim also made the climb by shooting 4-under par for the day. He shot the most birdies with seven yet he also miscalculated on three holes that ended for three bogeys. Kim almost was the most aggressive player of the day

Charles Howell III was another player that moved slightly as he shot 3-under par for the day. Howell wasn’t expected to be tied at fourth place but he continuously played well since the third round. He ended up 13-under par for the Wyndham Championship.

David Toms had a great day shooting for 5-under par but his performance wasn’t enough to make him even in the top 10. Toms was one of the favorites before the start of the tournament but failed to play in the highest level of his capability.

Ernie Els had a dismal day with 2-over par 72 that might caused him to miss next week’s Fedex tournament.
