Update:
Bill Haas drilled in a 45-foot birdie putt that enabled him to outshine Phil Mickelson and Keegan Bradley in another extra hole playoff Sunday at the Riviera CC Pacific Palisades California to capture the Northern Trust Open 2012 title.
Bogeyless round, right approach, and avoid miscalculations. These are the things needed by Phil Mickelson to keep himself on top of the PGA Northern Trust Open 2012 Leaderboard final round as other golfers chase him with such urgency and determination.
Mickelson is currently tied on top that he has to be consistent in his remaining holes. He birdied the first and fifth hole to elevate him more but in the eight and ninth holes he failed to manuever at least pars that he ended up putting for bogeys. So the bogeyless round is already denied for Mickelson as many believe that he will make the runaway in today’s competition.
With terrible errors on his approach in the two holes that he bogeyed, Mickelson bounced back in the 11th hole as he drilled in for a birdie. This will be a round for him to avoid any mistake that can swing the momentum and even the lead to his competitors. Mickelson currently is 1-under for the day and 8-under for the tournament.
Keegan Bradley continues to put the pressure on Mickelson as he is tied the PGA leaderboard after 11 holes at 1-under par for the day and 8-under par for the competition. Bradley birdied the first hole as many others did it for this is the easiest hole of the tournament. However, he faltered in the second, fourth and fifth holes by putting bogeys. It was a terrible mistake for him to went that far in those holes. However, he managed to get back in contention as he birdied the seventh, ninth, and 11th holes that allowed a four shots swing on him and of Mickelson.
Dustin Johnson is also at 6-under par after 14 holes and that he continues to play decisively just for him to stay in the competion making others to commit mistakes. He has three birdies and two bogeys so far and he has to make the move in his four remaining holes. Jonathan Byrd also is just two strokes behind the PGA leaderboard and if he cna manage to play aggressively and turn his game into birdies then he has a chance to do it.
Lurking just behind the leaderboard is Jarrod Lyle with 6-under par for the competition and 2-under par for the day. He started it right by putting birdies in the first and second holes consecutively but the ninth hole was a problem that he putted a bogey. On the 10th hole, he made the risk in his second shot that allowed him to have an easy birdie.
The biggest performer of the day was Sergio Garcia by hitting 7-under par in the fourth and final round but he is just 5-under for the competiion. Garcia eagled 11 and 15th holes, birdied first, third, sixth, 16th and 18 holes but he bogeyed the fourth and seventh holes. He extensively surprised other players but his effort will not be enough unless there’s a major collapse on the players on top of him.
PGA Northern Trust Open 2012 Leaderboard will provide us the twists as the winner will be known.
