PGA Chevron World Challenge 2011: Tiger Woods set to win and be in the leaderboard
The PGA Chevron World Challenge 2011 at Sherwood Country Club starts Thursday with Tiger Woods being in the spotlight to have an opportunity to win. Woods has not won a tournament in two years and he will always be in the spectrum filled with criticisms if he fails to pull off a victory.
Woods just played for the United States team in the currently concluded Presidents Cup in Australia. He helped the team to beat the International squad as he showed sharpness on his game especially on his tragictory in his tee shots. Woods has something in mind when he make the start on his tee shot in today’s Chevron World Challenge 2011 first round.
The tee time of Woods is at 10:10 ET as he is paired with Steve Stricker. We all know that this is the best opportunity for Woods to be the best he can be as a golfer. Woods swing has improved and he is ready to be aggressive especially on his second shots.
It will be a kind of start for the golfers as they will face a disturbing weather as the forecast shows 20-40 mph and occasional gusts over 60 miles. This weather forecast would be a challenge for Woods as he tries to grab a title for the first time in many tournaments. Woods knows how to play in this kind of weather and he has the experience to bring him on top of the leaderboard.
Strong winds can not be the problem but when it rains, then that’s the struggle for the players. A possible delay can happen with the rain and it can create stress to the players.
The Chevron World Challenge will absolutely be the launching pad of Woods for his comeback. Of course the field is only composed of 18 players. It would be a chance for Woods to win the tournament that he is hosting.
Woods participated in the World Challenge nine times and won four times. His worst finish was 14th place. As Woods craves for a victory, the nearest possible is this tournament as only 18 players on the field.
Graeme McDowell who pulled off a comeback on the final day to beat Woods in a playoff last year, will not defend his crown. He is playing instead in a big-money event in South Africa. McDowell will be missed in this tournament.
Paul Casey and Jason Day will be the first pair at 9:30 tee time. Australian Day has found success in his career this year as he was in the top 10 of many tournaments. He will challenge Woods in this Chevron World Challenge 2011.
Of course Keegan Bradley who is one of the best golfers this year will have to prove that he can beat Woods. Surely, he was not selected in that Presidents Cup but it his chance to prove to the world that he belongs to the class golfer.
Jim Furyk will take this opportunity also to grab the first prize that’s worth $1.2 million as his tee time at 10:00am paired with Nick Watney. Furyk can win this tournament and he has enough experience to do it.
We will provide you the PGA Chevron Challenge 2011 leaderboard for the first round here.
