Packers vs Vikings MNF: Minnesota upset in the making?
If there’s a team that can derail the winning streak of the Green Bay Packers, it could be the Minnesota Vikings! An statement that was perfectly used a couple of years ago when these two teams were in the playoffs but not probably this time around as the Packers are undefeated while the Vikings are struggling.
Green Bay Packers face Minnesota Vikings in Monday Night Football at Lambeau Field at 8:30 PM ET kickoff time. It is is interesting to note that the Packers high-powered offense continues to bring the victories as they enter into the second half of the season.
Quarterback Aaron Rodgers probably will wind up the MVP if he maintains his game and keeps his team on top of the NFC. Rodgers completion percentage of 72.5 % is extremely high as he finds his targets most of the time. He already accumulated 2,619 passing yards, 24 touchdowns and only three interceptions. If you look at the touchdowns, he will have a chance to break the record of Tom Brady which was done in 2007 with 50 touchdowns.
Rodgers is considered now a candidate for the MVP because of the numbers he is putting every game. He also controls the game well for the Packers that the passing game is unstoppable. However, we are about to see how he plays the rest of the season if he can keep up the pace and he continues to lead the team.
Many NFL experts believe that the Packers can go for a 16-0 record this season for they have the capability of doing it in the offense. Surely, the Packers look to be back to defend their Super Bowl ring and that they will go to the playoff as the top seed in the NFC not a wildcard which they routed last year.
Wide receiver Greg Jennings is the favorite target of Rodgers as he already had 48 receptions for a total of 723 yards including six touchdowns. Jennings is the most reliable receiver of the Packers and he is on the way to reach 1,000 reception yards.
Jordy Nelson is another receiver that can be the main target this game. He already accumulated 570 yards in 29 receptions with five touchdowns. He averaged 19.7 per catch and he is the deep threat of Rodgers.
Expect Rodgers to do exactly what he is doing as the Packers will look forward for another victory. But we all know that in the NFL, upsets happened in the past and there’s a chance that the Packers will lose because of their weakness – the defense.
On the defensive side, the Packers still have a lot of things to adjust. The Packers pass defense has been the problem that can haunt them in the playoffs that the fixings must be done in the next eight games starting today.
The Packers defense must be aggressive enough to create the pressure so that the quarterback of the Vikings will not be comfortable to navigate the offense. Also, can the Packers contain Adrian Peterson? In their previous games, Peterson rushed strongly averaging more than 100 yards a game. If the Packers will give him that leverage on the ground, then the Vikings will be playing to steal the game in the fourth quarter.
Minnesota Vikings are not playing to be a contender this season as their record of 2-6 will give them a slim chance of entering the playoffs. It is still mathematically possible but Vikings must be preparing for the future as the team explores quarterback Christian Ponder.
Ponder provides the best opportunity for the Vikings to compete than the aging Donovan McNabb as the quarterback. He gives freshness to the offense as he sees his receivers exactly where he wants to throw the ball. He showed in the last two games that he can be a good quarterback.
Ponder completed 18 of 28 passes for 236 yards with a touchdown against Carolina in the last game. He managed the game exactly the way it should be by not making mistakes that can harm them. He has a lot of room for improvements and he is the future of the Vikings.
If the Vikings have to win this football game, they need to slow it down and pound the ball on the ground. Peterson is very important to rush strong through the mouth of the defense of Packers.
It is possible for the Vikings to make the Packers struggle but we all know that the Packers have the arsenals to clinch the win at home.
