New York Yankees beat Tampa Bay Rays coming from behind

By

The New York Yankees defeated Tampa Bay Rays in a squeaker,5-4, as Russell Martin forced a walk with the bases loaded. Yankees continue to find ways of winning in the past days.

Yankees came from behind victory placed the team nearer to the top team in the division with 1 1/2 games deficit. The Yankees as a team played magnificent catch up while down 1-4. With the explosiveness of Eduardo Nunez, Robinson Cano, Brett Gardner, and Mark Teixeira, the Yankees overcame the big deficit.

Rays starting pitcher Alex Cobb played a great game as he allowed only two runs and three hits but the Rays bullpen couldn’t hold on to that lead. Furthermore Torres was just called from the minors. He provided one of best pitching performance last night in the majors. He might start again in the future for the Rays as they have to shake the rotation. He leads 4-2 before leaving the mound and turning it to the Rays bullpen.

Meanwhile Rays Alex Torres yielded the run when the Yankees loaded the bases. Yes, the magnificent single of Curtis Granderson; there’s the intentional walk to Nick Swisher and eventually giving another walk to Andruw Jones. Yankees grabbed the opportunity as Martin was very patient in batting taking the walk and of course paved the way for the Yanks to win.

For the Yankees, pitcher David Robinson threw with accuracy in the eight inning getting two strike outs for as he got the win. Of course, the Yanks turned to the best closer in the history of the MLB Mariano Rivera who captured his 24th save.

It was hard for Tampa Bay’s manager Joe Maddon to make this a win because they just played 16th inning defeat against the Boston Redsox. He had limited options that almost provided them the win. The team wasted opportunities when they have the go ahead run in the third base.

The game against Boston made Maddon to used his players who were in their first game. Yankees continue their chase on Boston Redsox in the divisional standings. It might go down the wire. However, the Rays can still make it if they will play much better in the coming days.

Derek Jeter added another hit, 1-5, in the seventh inning against Joel Peralta. The Yankess are playing with intensity and if they will continue to push the right buttons, they can be the AL leader.

Yankees still is the favorite to win the AL but they have Boston Redsox on their way.
