New York Knicks Score: Jeremy Lin’s magic abounds against Mavericks
Destiny, destiny…What a destiny… or is it a magic? But many called it a hardwork? Just another team victimized by the Linsanity factor as Jeremy Lin scored 28 points to lead the New York Knicks victory against Dallas Mavericks 104-97 in a hotly contested game. Lin also added career 14 assists in what was considered his best performance in his three magical weeks.
Without a doubt Mavericks were shocked by how Lin significantly changed the momentum in the fourth quarter as as Knicks outscored 32-22. The defending champion couldn’t do that much as Lin was on top of his game doing the damage by scoring and assisting. He did the most important thing and that was scoring when needed and assisting at the right time. Knicks fans were completely alive this time around as Lin displayed his magic once again after he failed to deliver his best against the New Orleans Hornets Friday.
Steve Novak also changed the complexity of the game as he drilled in four 3-pointers in the fourth quarter to help lift the Knicks in a comeback and to make him one of the options aside from Lin. The newly acquired J.R. Smith contributed also with 15 points to add up to the firepower of the Knicks. Smith had three 3-pointers in the game that paved the way for Knicks to score in all of the courts area. With Lin, Novak, and Smith clicking for the Knicks, the Dallas defense was confused as to whom it would focused its defense.
In a game that had many momentum changes, the Knicks flourished because of the outside shootings which they made 12 of them that partly demoralized the Mavericks. Furthermore, the emergence of Smith was the key of the game as the Knicks got something from him on his debut. Coming off from China after finishing his contract, Smith decided to play with the Knicks and he created an immediate impact for the team.
Lin with many turnovers? He committed nine turnovers in that game against the Hornets but tonight Lin had only six. But the number still was high and that he needs to continue to trim down his mistakes. Lin showed that he could keep concentrating on his passes and taking the risks in scoring for the Knicks. With that 14 assists, it would be difficult for any team to stop Lin in the process of time.
Trailing 12 points in the third quarter, the New York Knicks were persistent to pull off a rally and that they provided the fans again reasons to believe that the Knicks is a legitimate contender. Mike D’Antoni pushed the right buttons this time as he designed plays that trampled the defense of the Mavericks. Moreover, the plays that included Novak and Smith did truly take aside doubts surrounding his play calling after a defeat from the Hornets.
Dirk Nowitzki scored 34 points for the Mavericks but his performance wasn’t enough to derail the Linsanity action in New York. Mavericks also was stopped from their six game winning streak.
