It is well-known that after Zito signed a seven year $126 million contract, his game has been in decline and that he received so much criticism about his performances. Zito also is remembered as one of the three “aces” of Oakland Athletics and that he won the CY Young in 2002.

Zito will get the nudge as he was 5-0 in the last five games in the regular season providing him a 15-8 record that captivated his manager to fill him in. There might be controversy in starting Zito because two time NL Cy Young Tim Lincecum was left out of the Giants rotation.

With Zito pitching, it is necessary for the SF Giants to generate some runs to help him win this game. In the victories that Zito won for the Giants, the team didn’t give him much room getting only an average of four runs. Zito will have to work hard throwing in perfect locations so that he can stop the offense of the Reds. It is imperative for Zito not to allow the Reds any runs but it is understandable that Cincinnati will try to finish the series today.

For the Reds, Mat Latos will be the starter and that he was a surprise option of Dusty Baker. Latos had an impressive regular season with 14-4 record, 3.48 ERA and 185 K’s. The Reds will have to dig deeper to be productive in this game against Zito.

St Louis Cardinals vs Washington Nationals Game 3 National League Divisional Series

St Louis Cardinals will put an experience pitcher on the mound to take an advantage as they face the Washington Nationals. Chris Carpenter will be the ultimate choice to be the redeemer of the Cardinals though it is clear that he pitched only for 17 innings all year. It can backfire for the Cardinals but his postseason shows 9-2 record with 3.05 ERA. Aside from that, he orchestrated a magnificent performance for the Cardinals to win the World Series last year.

For the Nationals who are favored to win the series, manager Davey Johnson decided to start Edwin Jackson on the mound. This is a dangerous move for Johnson but he has no choice because he used his two best starters already. It is up to the offense of the Nationals create something new against Carpenter. The winner of this Game 3 will have the edge in advancing to the next round.

Baltimore Orioles vs NY Yankees Game 3 of the ALDS

Orioles vs Yankees Game 3 story is centered on the star Alex Rodriguez as he has not been a contributor for the cause of the Yankees in the last three games. Rodriguez who only connected 1 for 9 in the series might be dropped farther from the No 3 spot. This is one of the biggest moves of Joe Girardi that he will not remain ARod in the third hitting spot. Will this decision wake up Rodriguez?

The highest payroll team in baseball will once again have to find its way to the top and lose in the the ALDS is not acceptable to the Yankees organization.

Meanwhile, Baltimore Orioles will have to use Miguel Gonzalez (9-4) as the starter. Gonzales is a rookie who has been consistent in minimizing the damages brought by the opponents. The O’s will have to be aggressive again in their approach to confuse the Yankee’s defense. Creating a big gap early in the game can totally eliminate the chances of the Yankees.

On the other hand, the Yankees will start Hirok Kuroda who has a record of 16-11 in the regular season. If he can tame the offense of the O’s, then Derek Jeter, Rodriguez, and Ichiro Suzuki can generate runs.

A contentious baseball series. The Oakland Athletics will try to extend the series as they face the Tigers in what is expected to be yet another cliffhanger game.

This is a battle not only of the players but also the managers who are willing to do everything in altering the lineups just to win. Tigers manager Jim Leyland feels that Scherzer is the best pitcher even though he struggled with injuries in the regular season.
