Mayweather vs Ortiz results: Millions not satisfied with the knockout
Floyd Mayweather Jr. won the bout against Victor Ortiz in a controversial manner. Mayweather stood with his claim that he didn’t break any boxing rule. His camp never release an apology at all.
Yes, it affected the audience at MGM as well as the millions who purchased PPV just to see a great fight. Mayweather didn’t give them the chance to see more of the fight. He cut it short as he took the opportunity to finish Ortiz with a cheap shot. Many called it “cheat shot”.
Mayweather released the two punches that knocked down his opponent. It happened so quick when Ortiz was not looking at all and the ref let the the fighter engaged. In a wink of an eye, Ortiz was shocked, the viewers were astonished by that unsportsmanlike conduct of Mayweather.
However, despite all the criticisms that Mayweather has received, he stands to his principle that Ortiz should protect himself at all times. Furthermore, Mayweather mentioned that it was Ortiz who delivered the “dirty shot” by headbutting him intentionally.
Mayweather wanted to finish it fast avoiding the pressure that Ortiz showed in that fourth round. He wanted to avenge himself of that head butt that hurt him. Moreover, he wanted not to engage longer for Ortiz could get him in a punch.
On the other hand, Ortiz should take the blame for himself. He was given all the opportunities to shine in this big boxing fight but he decided to make something different. He should have gotten the respect of the fans and the boxing world if he didn’t become “dirty himself”.
If I am Mayweather, I will do just the same because of the first unnecessary action of Ortiz. Yes, Mayweather deserves the win though it was not the way the crowd wanted it.
Now that Mayweather continues to be undefeated, the next challenge for him is the eight division champion Manny Pacquiao. If Mayweather will receive $100 million for this fight, will he accept the challenge?
