Maria Sharapova advances to the Australian Open 2012 finals
Not the end of her peak the start of her run in the tennis world. Maria Sharapova dismantled Petra Kvitova, 6-2, 3-6, 6-4, in the women’s Australian Open semifinals Thursday to move on to the the Finals.
With all the eyes of the beautiful Sharapova, she won the first set but eventually faltered in the second but she showed her forehand volleys in the final set to end up 6-4. Sharapova seeks for her fifth grand slam title and she is also entitled to be the No 1 player in the world if she beats her competitor Victoria Azarenka. With her experience, Sharapova pulled of a powerful performance in the third set by breaking the services of Kvitova. Though she didn’t show up in the second set, Sharapova was determined to make the necessary adjustments to win the match.
Because of the transfixing figure of Sharapova, the media always gives her much of the attention. This time around, she will have the spotlight on Saturday in the women’s finals against Azarenka who defeated Kim Clijster, 6-4-1-6, 6-3 to advance to the finals. Azarenka provided the significant defensive acts against the serves of Clijster. After convincingly winning the first set, Azarenka’s momentum was stopped in the second set but she started the third set strongly enough to overpower her opponent.
“The match was very close. There were a few deciding moments where I think I maybe had a little bit of an advantage, in the third set, especially that first game where I had break point,” Clijsters said. “But, you know, she definitely played really well. She was playing very aggressive tennis, moving really well. So she deserved to win at the end.”
The Australian Open 2012 Women’s finals, Maria Sharapova vs Victoria Azarenka will be a great tennis match and surely the world will stop and look at how the highest paid female athlete will perform. Will she get her fifth grand slam?
