Pre Game
The Tigers mounted defense will face the Razorbacks high-powered offense which is the best in SEC in passing and scoring. Of course Alabama tamed the Razorbacks offense but it is a question if the Tigers have that kind of defense to stop the raging Arkansas. The dominance of the Tigers as they encountered a brutal schedule that included the games against Oregon Ducks and Alabama Crimson Tide. It is just fitting that the Tigers have the control of their destiny this season.
For LSU to match the production of the opponent, the Tigers offense will pound the ball at the line of scrimmage by running the football first. Yes, the rushing game of the Tigers will be the key in winning this game because they can manage the time possessions of Arkansas if the running game works. Besides, the run will be the best weapon in dismantling Arkansas.
LSU must exploit the weak rushing defense of Arkansas as it yielded 190 plus yards seven times. The Tigers are willing to go inside because this is the team’s identity. Absolutely, there will be two great quarterbacks for the Tigers but any of them can win this game as long as the system is to be followed.
In the previous game against Mississippi in which the Tigers won 52-3, quarterback Jordan Jefferson completed 7 of 7 passes for 88 yards and a touchdown. Jefferson started for the second time replacing Jarrett Lee. Coach Les Miles will probably be using Jefferson as the starter against Arkansas.
As the Tigers rushing game was excellent as the coaching staff used different variations. Alfred Blue rushed four times for 74 yards whille Spencer Ware carried 10 times for 70 yards. Making it deeper for the LSU offensive attacks, Kanny Hilliard had 59 yards in 9 carries while Terrence Magee carried seven times for 55 yards. Michael Ford also helpe the cause as he rushed five times for 50 yards.
With all the toughness of the defense of the Tigers, this is still a game in which they are vulnerable with. History doesn’t belong to LSU as they were beaten three times in the last four games they played. Certainly, LSU struggled everytime they meet the Razorbacks but expect a tight game that will surely affect the BCS Standings.
However, LSU has the edge for they will play at the Tiger Stadium where the Tigers won 16 consecutive games. Aside from their game against Alabama, the Tigers winning margin averages at 30.4 points overpowering teams like Oregon and West Virginia.
LSU Tigers have the capability of distancing themselves in this game through their defense and offensive arsenals. The greatest worry of coach Miles will be the slow start of the Tigers. If they Arkansas will score first, then the offense of the Tigers will prone to mistakes as they play catch up.
For the Arkansas Razorbacks, everything is on the line as they face the top ranked team in the country. Arkansas jumped into third place in the current BCS Standings and that they will have a chance to be part of the controversies surrounding the BCS rankings if they will make the biggest upset.
Regardless of the score if the Razorbacks win, then they will have (11-1, 7-1) record, tied with the Tigers and also with the Crimson Tide. Three teams in a SEC West have the same record and two teams will be selected to the BCS National title game?
What is awesome with Arkansas is their high powered spread offense that creates the necessary attacks against the defense of the opponents. The end result will always be confusion to the defense as how to handle the Razorbacks offense.
Quarterback Tyler Wilson is the heart and soul of this team as he navigates through the defense of the Tigers. He already completed 243 of 385 passes for 3,215 yards, 21 touchdowns and five interceptions.
Jarius Wright had already 1,002 receiving yards in 61 catches while Joe Adams caught 46 times for 595 yards. These two players will play significant roles in providing the offensive yards for the Razorbacks.
