LSU vs Alabama 1st quarter Score: BCS National Championship Game update

Defense is the name of the game for Alabama and LSU as they are playing a resemblance of the November 5 game. Alabama Crimson Tide leads 3-0 in the first quarter as Jeremy Shelly drilled in a 23 yard field goal.

A.J. McCarron is moving the chains as he completed 8 of 11 passes for 88 yards. McCarron’s accuracy is a success so far. Marquis Maze 45 yard punt return altered the complexion of the game as the Crimson Tide got near the 26 yard of the Tigers.

Don’t look now but it seems that the BCS National Championship game, January 9, 2011, is a low scoring game as the offenses of both teams cannot make the near the goal lines because of the defense. This proves to be that both teams have enough determination in the defensive end.

Will a touchdown be scored? It will always be opened to a possibility because there’s a lot of football still to be played. LSU’s offense has nothing to show at this moment as it is being shut down by the Crimson Tide.Quarterback Jordan Jefferson is 5 of 5 passing for only 18 yards in the first quarter. If the Tigers will have to win this game, Jefferson must deliver the passes to his receivers.

In dissecting the primary reasons why the LSU Tigers are here in the BCS National Championship Game one that comes to the minds of many observers is the mounted defensive scheme. Yielding 10.5 points per game can be mind boggling but they are only second to Alabama. Giving up 85.5 yards per gam in the rushing category while 167 yards per game in passing. What a stingy defene that surely has the chance to be undefeated all the way. With the defense of Tigers, it is also important to not that the players aggressiveness and their determination to win can make the difference in this game. Many believe that the defense is the arsenal that others cannot follow especially when the game is on a crunchtime.

But the Tigers success cannot be attributed all because of the defense. Offensively, LSU averages a whooping 38.5 points per game. Surprised? This is what the Tigers are all about. The Tigers have one of the most explosive offenses in the nation that it is being overlooked. Tigers flourishes in the offensive attacks through the running game as they average 215 yards per game. At quarterback, Jordan Jefferson will be the starter as he has done in the previous games eclipsing Jarret Lee. Both of the quarterbacks played significantly and that the Tigers decided to have Jefferson to anchor this game.

On the other hand, Alabama has the offensive attacks that originates from the run also as they average 220 yards per game on the ground and 214 yard in the air. With the balance attack, still the offense must take care of the details when they need to pump up a long pass. Trent Richardson accumulated 1,583 yards, 20 touchdowns to make it happen for the offense of the Crimson Tide. He is the key player for the Tide as he also can receive totaling 327 yards in 27 receptions and three touchdowns.
