Kansas City Chiefs vs San Diego Chargers in the Thursday Night Football collision. In what is an unprecedented collapse in the current NFL season, the Kansas City Chiefs will try to survive as they face the struggling San Diego Chargers. Kansas City is not living to the expectations of the fans and even the entire NFL community because of their only one victory so far.
Known for destroying the undefeated status of the Green Bay Packers last year, the Kansas City Chiefs are not making noise in the AFC West as they never have collected wins that catapult them in the divisional race. Coach Romeo Crennel knows that his job is on the line if his team couldn’t reach the postseason.
Kansas City was overwhelmed by the Oakland Raiders, 26-16, in the previous week in which their offense was very stagnant against the Raiders defense. Quarterback Matt Cassel completed 20 of 30 passes for 218 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Aside from the passing, Cassel also was the leading rushers with 35 yards in seven runs. It was a surprising low production of offense given the fact that the Raiders were not that great defensively.
In this game against the Chargers, the Chiefs rushing offense must produce more than 150 yards, though they are 3rd in the nation for that category. It is important for the Chiefs to have a balance offense so that the Chargers defense will have a difficult time to catch up on them. Thus, Cassel must make the right decisions and he must also feed the ball to his runningback, may it be Jamaal Charles.
Furthermore, Cassel must find his receivers like Dwyane Bowe, Tony Moeaki, and Dexter McCluster especially in the fourth quarter when the game is on the line. If Cassel has to win this game, then his receivers must come out big.
Meanwhile, the San Diego Chargers have to win this game after losing a baseball like score against the Cleveland Browns Sunday. One of the worst offensive scoring of the Chargers with only six points in two field goals.
Norv Turner has to make it happen for the Chargers and that they must be in the playoffs for him to stay on his job. Yes, the Chargers are expected to dominate the division with quarterback Philip Rivers at his prime but it seems that San Diego is in the edge of collapsing.
In that defeat against the Browns, Rivers completed 18 of 34 passes for only 154 yards without any touchdown at all. Where is the offensive game of the Chargers that once dominate the NFL? Though coach Turner is known for his offensive mind, this team cannot let itself settle for fieldgoals.
In the passing game, Rivers couldn’t find his receivers like Antonio Gates who caught only two catches for 14 yards. Though Malcolm Floyd caught four catches for 43 yards and Ronnie Brown had 7 catches for 85 yards, the offense was not enough. In the running game, Ryan Matthews rushed 24 times for 95 yards.
The bright side of the Chargers is that they are second in the league in the rush defense. It is possible that San Diego can tame the rushing offense of the Chiefs in this Thursday Night Football. Moreover, the defense must also be effective in the passing game so that they will completely subdue Kansas.
Kansas City Chiefs vs Chargers game time is at 8:20 PM ET. What is the Kansas City Chiefs vs Chargers tv channel schedule? This is a crucial game for the Chargers, this game is televised on NFL Network.
