Chelsea vs Genk: Blues can score in the Champions League

Chelsea vs Genk showdown in the Group E of the Champions League will be the main attraction in today’s games. Chelsea is expected to dominate the group with already four points in compare to Genk with one point.

Fresh from the win in the Premier League against Everton, 3-1, the Blues look to solidify themselves as the contender in the Champion’s League. With the focus still on their chase in the Premier League, still manager Andre Villas-Boas will have to play to win and not just only to concentrate on Saturday and Sunday games.

Villas-Boas has to make the decision if he will let Fernando Torres play in this game after three games suspension in the EPL for his red card. Though he missed two games, the Blues still played with great intensity by scoring eight goals in those games. Without a doubt, Chelsea’s way of playing was not affected by the absence. In the two games that Torres was not playing, Daniel Sturridge stepped up to the occasion by drilling in three goals.

Chelsea has been effective with the new line up that changes the way of approaching the game. Sturridge played well with Dider Drogba and Juan Mata as the troika forward of Chelsea.

Chelsea drew at Valencia after overwhelming Bayer Leverkusin in the opener. With the two games, still Chelsea is on top of Group E. If the Blues will win this game, then they will continue to keep being on top.

The Blues offensive attacks can actually bring havoc against the defense of the Belgian team. Absolutely, this is the game that Chelsea can pound the ball at the middle to produce the necessary goals.

Players like John Terry and Frank Lampard will likely not be playing in this game to take some rest for the next game. Truly, Chelsea needs to have a balance team just to stay competitive both in the Premier League and Champions League.

Meanwhile, Genk is at the bottom of Group E and needs change gear just to beat the powerhouse Chelsea. Genk suffered three losses in a row and the team failed to score against Valencia and Bayer Leverkusen. It is significant that they will make the pressure on Chelsea to bring forth an upset.

Coach Mario Been may not have the luxury of playing with full force because of his injured players. Jose Nadson, Jeroen Simaeys, Torben Jonelei and Jelle Vossen will not be playing because of injury while David Hubert will not be available to play also.

This is the game for Genk to step up and to be tougher the whole game. The players must realize that they can pull the upset because they know that they can dig deeper beyond their capability. First is to stop Chelsea from scoring easy goals. They must tighten up their defenses against Chelsea’s attacks. If they contain Chelsea’s offense, they will have a chance to draw or to win the game.
