Part of Adam Scott’s success in the British Open 2012 if he wins is the fact that the other contenders fall. The fourth round of the British Open 2012 possess difficulties for the all the golfers as the windy day continues to destroy their rhythm. The Australian Scott still on top of the British Open Leaderboard at 9-under-par for the tournament, 2-over par for the fourth round after the ninth hole.
Scott efficiently defends his four shots lead at the start while his counterparts also struggled. Because of the toughness of the course, Scott shot 2-over par in the front nin by hitting bogey in the first, third, and sixth holes respectively. He manage to maintain his composure by three straight par saving putts in the seventh, eight, ninth, and 10th holes. Scott will have the rest of the back nine to play for the big advantage that only a costly error will sway him the British Open title.
What happened to Tiger Woods? With all the expectations for the fans, Woods made a gigantic mistake in the sixth hole as he ended up triple bogey that automatically costs him the chance of being neck-to-neck with Scott at the back nine. His shot using 5-iron from the fairway didn’t connect just the way he supposed to do it and it landed a couple of feet from the wall of a six foot deep bunker. He tried to get out of the trouble with his first attemp but it smacked the wall that hit himself. Woods suffered his first tripple bogey in almost 10 years that will ultimately negate his opportunity to catch up on the British Open Leaderboard 2012.
Surely, Woods is disappointed about his sixth hole mistake that will deprive him of his 15th major. Yes, that is the end of the search for Woods in the British Open 2012 while his opponent Adam Scott keeps his lead despite scoring three bogeys already. Woods will have to try still to place second place as it is still up for grab. Woods buried himself in the midst of his desire to win his first major in three years. With all the attention on Woods in the front nine, all eyes are not set for Scott to maintain his composure until his last putt on the 18th.
After the triple bogey, Woods tried to bounce back in the seventh hole as he putt for birdie. However, in the ninth hole he found himself again missing a par saving putt the ended him into a bogey. Woods still have to make things work for him as he birdied the 10th hole while missing the opportunity to take advantage on the par 5 11th hole which he shot for par.
While Woods looks for a way to advance himself for a better position, Ernie Els is back in the chase for Scott in the PGA British Open Leaderboard as he is currently 6-under par for the tournament, even for the day. Els front nine was a disaster as he had bogeyed the second and ninth holes while the rest were pars. Because of Els persistence in trying to post a threat on Scott, Ells took care of the 10th and 12th holes for birdies that lifted him into a lone second place, 3 shots behind Scott. Els knows how to win a title and he lurks around just to wait for Scott to fall along the way in the back nine of the British Open.
Meanwhile Graeme McDowell also struggles as he is 3-over par for the final round of the British Open 2012, 4-over for the tournament. McDowell bogeyed the second, sixth, ninth, and 10th holes. Though he birdied the eight hole, still this is not a day for McDowell as far as the front nine is concerned. He has the rest of the course to keep fighting for the second place if he couldn’t catch on Scott.
After the 12th hole, Brandt Snedeker finds himself in awkward position as he already shot 5-over for the final round. He double-bogeyed the seventh and eight holes respectively that eliminates himself out of contention. Snedeker started the day with just four shots behind Scott, now seven shots. He birdied the 10th hole but in the 11th and 12th holes, he ended up with bogeys. Snedeker showed in the previous rounds that he can win the competition but again when the game is on the line, Snedeker cannot give up his best because of too much pressure.
Today’s best golfer so far is Nicolas Colsaerts who scored 5-udder par while ending up at 1-under par for the tournament. He magnificently defied the difficulties of the course by putting six birdies, 11 pars, and a bogey.
Who is the winner of the British Open Championship 2012? Will Scott win it all?
