Bengals vs Jets: Andy Dalton is the right quarterback?
With all the attention the Jets gets in the last couple of months, Bengals was quiet enough to make the team in the headlines aside from mentioning about who their quarterback will be after Carson Palmer decided not to comeback.
In terms of quarterbacking, Andy Dalton will be tested again in tonight’s game against the New York Jets. The rookie quarterback is in the spotlight as he anchors his team in the New Meadowlands Stadium. Dalton was lucky enough to start as the quarterback of Bengals as he was drafted in the second round last April’s draft. Without Palmer and Chad Ochocinco, this Bengals is an new and young team that will compete in the tough AFC.
Dalton had a mediocre performance in the first game against Detroit Lions throwing an interception in his first pass. He completed 11 of 16 passes, 69 yards for the Bengals. It was not the game that the coaching staff are looking for from Dalton but he will be given a chance today against a tougher opponent, the Jets. His backup Bruce Gradkowski was 6 of 11 passes, 68 yards. Gradkowski still has a shot to be selected as the starter of Bengals if he can prove to the team that he can play.
On the other hand, the New York Jets are riding high with the expectation about Plaxico Burress who signed for the Jets after a controversial ride since he caught the winning pass in the Super Bowl with the NY Giants against the New England Patriots. Burress is ready to play with the team and he will be one of the targets of quarterback Alex Sanchez.
Head coach Rex Ryan knows the risk of signing the troubled Buress, yet he determined that Burress can make a significant role for the team that failed to reach the Super Bowl in the last two season. He might be the missing piece for the Jets that will enable them to advance to the Super Bowl after playing the last two AFC championship games.
Jets also will be playing with another great receiver Santonio Holmes who just renewed his contract with the team. Currently, the roster for the Jets offensively might be enough but still they are in the division with the New England Patriots.
Burress and Holmes have one thing in common. Both of them caught a game winning pass in two separate Super Bowls. They can play with composure in times of tight series. Moreover, they can open up the offense for the New York Jets that the team defending them will be in a hard time figuring out the offense.
In the previous game, the Jets suffered a defeat against Houston Texans 20-16. Despite the loss, quarterback Sanchez played magnificently throwing 6 out of 7 passes, 43 yards. Sanchez has been playing superb in the last two years with the Jets. He will probably play for the first quarter in this game and give it to his backup Greg McElroy.
Offensive lineman Robert Turner will be out for this game and in the coming eight weeks because of the injury he suffered last week. However, the Jets are still in a full force to play this game. Still the question, how will will the starters play?
Expect for the Jets to play a mounted defensive game that will make the Bengals struggle to score throughout the game.
Bengals vs Jets kickoff time is at 7:00 PM ET. The Bengals Jets scores will be available here after the game.
