BCS Standings 2011: Why Alabama will not be in the BCS title game?
After the release of the November 27th BCS Standings, it is clear that LSU Tigers and Alabama Crimson Tide stayed as No 1 and No 2 teams in the country. With the perfect points, LSU (12-0) occupied the first spot of the BCS rankings giving us a clear hint that the Tigers will be in the BCS championship game on January 9, 2012.
Experts believe that the SEC Championship game between the LSU Tigers and Georgia Bulldogs will not alter the destiny of the Tigers if they loss the game. The case is settled for the LSU Tigers as the team to be in the BCS Championship no matter what happens. They deserve to be there as they defeated the three top ranked teams namely Alabama, Arkansas, and Oregon.
LSU Tigers proved to the world that they are the best team in the nation with a brutal schedule but they managed to collectively win games in mind-boggling manners. However, the only vulnerability that they performed was the game against the Crimson Tide that went to overtime, 9-6. Though many believed that it was a boring game because no team scored a touchdown and that they played with much turnovers, it looks like the Tigers will have to face Crimson Tide in January 9.
However, with the mindset of the football spectators glued on the LSU-Alabama showdown, there are few people believe that Alabama’s position is not yet settled. The fact of the matter is that there is still a game left for some of the one loss teams like the Oklahoma State and the Virginia Tech. Here are three reasons why Alabama Crimson Tide will not be in the BCS National title game.
1. LSU-Alabama football game doesn’t create excitement anymore. The voters can be persuaded by the fact that these two teams have played already and that they want to see another team facing LSU in the title game. If this happens, it will give way for the Oklahoma State to be the replacement if they beat Oklahoma Sooners. However, if the Cowboys will be defeated in that Big 12 Championship, Alabama will be in as the voters will select according what had taken place.
2. Alabama is not even a division winner. It is clear to all that Alabama Crimson Tide is not the best in the SEC conference and not even in the SEC West. What if the Bulldogs beat LSU? Then in common reasons, Georgia is the top team in the conference followed by LSU and Alabama comes third. It creates confusion why Alabama is the second best team in the nation.
3. Alabama didn’t have the tough schedule. By comparing Alabama and Oklahoma State’s schedule, it is clear that Oklahoma had a tougher schedule. But the case here will be about how the Cowboys lost the game to the Iowa State, an unranked team while Alabama were defeated just narrowly. Oklahoma State is the only team that can really remove Alabama from the current position.
Now that the BCS Rankings 2011 is getting to a close, the projections of for the 1 and 2 position remains to be uncertain but it winds up to three teams that are legitimate to occupy those spots.
Here is the current BCS Standings released Sunday November 27.
1. LSU (12-0) – Beating Arkansas provides them the reason to play in the BCS National title game. Absolutely, LSU Tigers have the defense and the offense to be the best team in the nation. Expect the Tigers to be in the BCS championship game on January 9.
2. Alabama Crimson Tide – After beating Auburn, the Crimson Tide solidified themselves as the No 2 team in the college football based on the BCS ranking system. Alabama expects to stay in their position because the team will not play next week and not playing means they will not be moved at all.
3. Oklahoma State – A small shot at the second spot next week as they play Oklahoma Sooners. Yes, Oklahoma State is the only team that can alter the BCS rankings next week. A win will provide them a little chance. Cowboys might catch the eyes of the voters. A domination against the Sooners will probably cast doubts to the LSU-Alabama lovers.
4. Stanford Cardinal – A lost case for the Cardinal. They are not in the Pac 12 Championship game because of that loss to Oregon. It is a tough call to let them in in the second spot specially if the Ducks will win the Pac 12. They may be part in one of the BCS games.
5. Virginia Tech – Whatever happens to the Hokies in their conference title game will absolutely not change the way the top two teams in the nation. The Hokies are looking for a BCS game and they will have it if they win their next game.
6. Houston – The only undefeated teams outside the LSU Tigers. It is not enough for them to convince the world that they are one of the best teams in the college football despite the fact that they are perfect. Houston can get a shot of one of the BCS games. Expect Houston to be receive an invitation for a BCS game.
7. Boise State – The Broncos missed their chance by missing the fieldgoal against TCU. It cost them millions of dollars because of that fieldgoal. Furthermore, they might be in the conversation for the BCS title game if they stayed undefeated.
8. Arkansas – From No 3, Arkansas dropped to No 8 in that loss against the Tigers. It will not be possible for them to receive an invitation in for a BCS game if Georgia beats the Tigers. It is not possible for four teams to be in the BCS games; LSU, Georgia, Alabama and Arkansas.
9. Oregon Ducks – Oregon Ducks failed to be back in the national title game conversation because of their defeat from the hands of the USC. It is clear that they have a shot for the title game if they won that game. If Oregon wins in the Pac 12 championship game, they will have an invitation to be in the Sugar Bowl.
10. Oklahoma – The Sooners also have many chances to be in the National title game but their effort didn’t produce the result they expected. A game against the Cowboys will bring them into a possible BCS game.

12.South Carolina
13. Michigan State
14. Georgia
