BCS Standings 2011: 5 reasons why Oklahoma State is No 2 in the BCS rankings
The last chance! Oklahoma State is back in the BCS Standings conversation, just like that. A victory over the Oklahoma Sooners in an overpowering fashion, 34-10, provided the poll voters to consider Oklhahoma State is the No 2 team in the country. Was that win enough to convince them?
BCS system controversy will again take place whichever team is selected. Expect Mark Cuban to offer an alternative playoff system to find out the best team in the nation in the coming weeks. The win of the Cowboys created a buzz that they can be considered in the BCS National Championship game because of how dominating they were against the No 10 Sooners. Debate will be in the air in the next 24 hours as Oklahoma State campaigns for the second spot.
Of course, in fairness to the Alabama Crimson Tide, they didn’t play and they expect that they will not be shaken at all. But the atmosphere right now seems to be pointing to the Cowboys as the No 2 in the Final BCS Rankings 2011. As for our projection even before the games started, we predicted that the Oklahoma State will land No 2 in the BCS Standings. Here are the reasongs why:
1. The best alternative for Alabama – Stanford Cardinal, Oregon Ducks, Boise State, Wisconsin Badgers…? Those teams can’t make the arguments. Those teams have no case to debate for. Those teams are not worthy to be compared to the Alabama Crimson Tide. It’s just that Oklahoma State is the best team out there as an alternative to Alabama.
2. Oklahoma State offense will be attractive for the poll voters. Of course everybody wants to see how this high-powered offense will match with the No 2 defense in the country in both passing and in scoring. People want to see how the Oklahoma State will react on that kind of defense.
3. Oklahoma State beats five ranked teams compared to two for Alabama. The Cowboys have a brutal schedule compared to the Crimson Tide. It is just a matter of considering how Oklahoma State beat those teams.
4. Oklahoma State is the Big 12 Champion – A conference champion vs a conference champion. Which is the best conference? SEC or Big 12? Great to settle this out but still hanging if Cowboys will have enough votes.
5. Oklahoma State creates more interest to the public – Because of the first game of LSU-Alabama that ended in a 9-6 Tigers victory, many do not want to see these two teams again. Give a chance to the Cowboys.
The greatest argument for Alabama is that their only defeat was on the hands of the Tigers in overtime while the Cowboys were defeated by Iowa State 37-31, an unranked team in a .500.
The case is settled, Oklahoma State Cowboys will be our projected No2 in the Final BCS Standings 2011.
