BCS Standings 2011, Oklahoma State can jump into the scene for a BCS Rankings controversy

It seems that the LSU-Alabama showdown on January 9, 2012 is settled. But there many argue that Oklahoma State can still dismantle one of those teams. Is it really?

These things must happen for a possible Oklahoma State chance to be in the second spot.

1. Oklahoma State must “annihilate” Oklahoma Sooners in the Big 12 Conference game. This means that the Cowboys must win big in this big game against the Sooners. If the Cowboys win this game, then they can make their case to have a shot at LSU and this will push aside Alabama Crimson Tide.

2. LSU must be defeated by Georgia. If something happens that can alter the BCS rankings is the Tigers dropping out of the first place into third or lower if they lose to the Bulldogs in the SEC championship game.

Yes, there’s a shot for the Oklahoma State to be in the BCS title. Who knows?

The controversy remains! The new release of the BCS Rankings 2011 still has LSU Tigers as the No 1 team in the country while the Alabama Crimson Tide hoses second place.

Two teams in the Southeastern West are the top to teams according to the BCS Standings. Yes, there is no more controversy in the SEC West as Arkansas was put aside by the Tigers last Friday. However, still there are questions surrounding the top two teams if they deserves to have a rematch on January 9, 2012 BCS National title game.

LSU still have a game against Georgia Bulldogs for the SEC Conference title game. A win for LSU will not change their destiny as the top team in the nation. But what still hangs around is about LSU losing to the Bulldogs. What will happen to the BCS Standings 2011? This will again create bigger controversy because of many teams having only a loss.

If LSU losses the game, then the chances of Oklahoma State, Virginia Tech, and Stanford will still be alive. Of course we don’t know where the Tigers be dropped if they will be beaten by Georgia. Though many BCS experts believe that whatever happens in that game or let’s say if LSU will be subdued, they will still play for the BCS National game because of the strength of their schedule beating Albama, Arkansas, and Oregon – top 10 teams.

Alabama Crimson Tide still is the No 2 team in the BCS rankings. The only advantage for the Crimson Tide is the fact that they will not play next week. This means that their standings will not change at all. Alabama is safe and they are surely bound to the National title game. But there are questions about the legitimacy of the Crimson Tide getting into that game. First, Alabama is not a conference winner. If we want to get the best in the nation, winners of conferences should be in the national title game. Secondly, Alabama should have been eliminated in that game when they lost to the LSU, thus, giving only a team from the SEC to represent it. Thirdly, Alabama Crimson Tide has a weaker schedule in comparison to the the Oklahoma State.

Oklahoma State Cowboys ranked third in the current release of the BCS Standings. This team still can alter the course of the BCS rankings 2011 because they have to play the Oklahoma Sooners in the Big 12 conference game. There is a chance that the Cowboys will jump higher into the Standings if they can beat a high ranked Sooners. But the blemish of their record will be back to their loss to the Iowa State. Truly, they have a tough schedule but they loss to team that has no ranked at all.

Stanford Cardinal has a case to fight for. Cardinal lost to a top 10 team, Oregon Ducks. The bad thing for the Carinal is that they are not the winner of the Pac 12 conference nor they will not play in the conference game at all. It would be a tough call to see the Cardinal playing in the BCS National title game 2012 and certainly they will not be there at all.

Virginia Tech Hokies is another team with only a loss in their record but they are not even in the conversation to play in the National title game. Certainly they have the best in the ACC but it is not enough for them to create a controversy. The Hokies will be content to play in one of the BCS games.

Boise State Broncos have nothing to talk about this time. They don’t even deserve to be in the conversation to be in a BCS game.

Here is the BCS Standings 2011 release on November 27, 2010
