BCS Championship 2013: Alabama vs Notre Dame Football Game Time, Date, TV Channel Schedule, Who will win?

Defense vs defense. Offense vs offense. This is what the BCS Championship 2013 is all about. There’s no controversy in the to two spot of the BCS Standings this time. Last season, it was just created that much questions why two SEC teams were in the unprecedented BCS National Championship Game between LSU and Alabama. Nobody can contest what the accomplishment of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish as being the only undefeated eligible for a bowl game, not to forget about the Ohio State which is banned from postseason.

Notre Dame is the indisputable No 1 because of its status as undefeated. While in the No 2 position, Alabama is the best team in the one loss record category. Oregon, Kansas State, and Florida State were contenders in that one loss category but they were not worthy because of the way they were beaten. Though Oregon could debate that as the club only lose three points to Stanford. However, Oregon was not the Pac 12 champion. For Kansas State, it was a terrible defeat in the hands of an unranked team. Florida cannot complain at all because it didn’t even gotten to the SEC championship game instead the Bulldogs.

Alabama deserves to be the No 2 team because it is defeated by a top 10 team in the Final BCS Rankings and that the Crimson Tide are the champions in the SEC. Thus, there’s no question that Alabama heads to Miami to face Notre Dame Fighting Irish. However, even though Alabama is the No 2 in the BCS Standings, the oddsmakers in Las Vegas put the Crimson Tide as 9 1/2 points favorites. That’s how Alabama is being respected and Notre Dame disrespected?

Before jumping into the BCS Championship Football game, let’s take a look at the numbers of these two teams and compare them. In the offense, Alabama averages 439 yards per game, 214.5 yards in passing and 224.6 yards in rushing. Notre Dame, meanwhile, produces 421 yards per game, 218.8 yards in passing while 202.5 yards in rushing. Alabama averages 38.5 while Notre Dame has 26.8 points per game. From the stats alone, the two teams are almost identical. The numbers show us that the two teams going to the BCS National Championship Game have explosive offenses.

In the defensive matchup, Alabama gives up 246 yards per game, 166.2 in passing yards and 79.8 in rushing yards. Notre Dame yields 288 yards per game, 166.2 in passing and 93.3 in rushing. Alabama gives 10.7 while Notre Dame 10.3 points per game. There’s again the similarity in defense and it will be extraordinary for both teams to stop the other offense through the defense. If Alabama and Notre Dame possess the defensive schemes that can stop the offense, where is to offense of each team start with in the first place?

Against big teams in the SEC, Alabama gave up big amount of yards. LSU was able to garner 435 yards and 21 points. Texas A&M garnered 418 yards and 29 points. Georgia got 394 yards and 28 points. It showed that Alabama’s defense is vulnerable against a powerhouse offense. If this can be applied to the Fighting Irish, then Alabama will struggle also. But are the Fighting Irish of the same level like the three SEC teams mentioned? If Notre Dame Fighting Irish can move the chains through their methodical offensive attacks, then they can beat the Crimson Tide.
