Victoria Azarenka beat Maria Sharapova 6-3, 6-0 Saturday night to win the Australian Open and take over the women’s No. 1 ranking.
Effulgence of colors will fill the television viewing public as the “apple of the eyes” play. Destined to be here or just the goal that instigated to get one more shot at the big tournament. Maria Sharapova is back on top her game as she tries to capture her fifth grand slam. It is surprising that Sharapova reached the women’s finals this time around when nobody was expecting her to be winning again. With the injuries she suffered in the past, it is just the thought of many of her fans that her career is over in terms of getting another grand slam.
Sharapova meets Victoria Azarenka in the Australian Open Women’s Finals Saturday and she will have a chance to be No 1 if she wins. Sharapova has plenty of power left this game because she is healthy to make the adjustments on her volleys and approach. Azarenka also will get the No 1 in the WTA if she beats Sharapova. The 22 year old Azarenka is on a new territory as she will play for the first time in a grand slam final.
Because of the shoulder injury in the past, Sharapova still have to get out there to make her performance better on her serving. Yes, she has been successful in this tournament to make the defensive adjustments as the match progressed but this is a different match againt a better returner. Azarenka’s strong grip as her returns are becoming impressive and confusing to her opponent.
In the semifinal match against Petra Kvitova, Sharapova showed that she could attack the net and make volleys for to win points. She also saved 31 of 40 breakpoints that paved her to beat Kvitova. If she will be able to counter those breakpoints, Sharapova will get his fifth grand slam. However, the factor that will determine the match for Azarenka will be on how she will be able to break the serves of Sharapova. Second serves opportunities will be the focus of Azarenka as she will maneuver for a shocker against Sharapova.
Furthermore, Sharapova needs to dig deeper on her arsenals to trample her opponent. She has to be patient in dealing the strong volley returns of Azarenka and she has to have the grip to return with such accuracy. Azarenka’s serves will also be her biggest advantage and that she will have to use it most of the points. Sharapova will be in the spotlight again as she will portray her beauty on camera and the fans will love her watching on television. This will be yet another high-rated match because Sharapova will be playing.
Azarenka is proven to be tough when the game is on the line. She possesses the reluctancy not to give up easily and that she has the style to defeat Sharapova. It will not be a shock at all if she will win in straight sets. She has to break Sharapova’s services so that she will be able to make the early lead. If this happens, it would be difficult for Sharapova to get back into the match.
Australian Open 2012 Women’s Finals match of Sharapova vs Azarenka will be televised on ESPN 2 and the start time is at 3:30 PM ET. Will this be another sweet win for Sharapova or will this be the breakthrough for the young Azarenka.
Meanwhile, the Australian Open 2012 Men’s Finals of Rafael Nadal vs Novak Djokovic will be tomorrow Sunday.
