Stoke City hosts Liverpool in one of the Premier League games on Sunday at 11:00 AM ET, 4:00 PM Local on Sunday, August 9.
Brendan Rodgers hopes to open the new season of the Premier League in a positive note over the Potters. With the inclusion of Roberto Firmino and Christian Benteke, the Reds have a strong roster that will compete against top opponents. Furthermore, James Milner is expected to debut for Liverpool as he played exemplary in the pre-season fixtures. Rodgers will have to make a tough decision in choosing his left back, Alberto Moreno or Joe Gomez.
“I need to regain their trust again. It has been an incredible journey since I came in here and it is an absolute privilege to manage this club with the supporters we have behind us, but you have to do well to earn that support and I need to earn that again,” said Rodgers.
On the other hand Stoke City manager Mark Hughes will have to utilize his roster without the presence of star defender Ryan Showcross because of injury. Stoke will be hoping to seal another victory over the Merseyside club when they face them on 9 August.
“It doesn’t matter what level you play at, a significant defeat like that generates questions about a lot of things that happen at the club. That was to be expected in the few days after the result. It’s something that maybe has focussed everybody connected with Liverpool. It’ s made them understand what they needed to be stronger this season,” said Hughes.
It was in the final game of the 2014-2015 season that the Stoke City and Liverpool last met. Liverpool lost the game 6-1.
Its reassuring to know that no matter how many players Stoke sign from Barcelona, Glenn Whelan will always retain a spot in the starting XI.
