2011 Tour de France Overall Standings. Frenchman Thomas Voeckler still holds first place of the Tour de France overall standings with a slim margin of 15 seconds over Andy Schleck. Voeckler wears the jersey for more than 10 days and he is determined to keep it until the end.
Voeckler’s lead was threatened yesterday by Andy Schleck when he has the lead of more than four minutes before climbing the Galibier. With the help of Cadel Evans doing the pace to chase Schleck, Voeckler pedaled to keep the yellow jersey.
Tour de France Overall Standings changes in the last three stages with Contador doing the attacks in the stages 16 and 17, while Andy Schleck did the damage yesterday as Contador couldn’t keep up with the contenders.
Can Contador be back? A lot of experts say that Contador lose the tour in stage 18 that the race is now with Andy Schleck, Frank Schleck, and Cadel Evans. Contador currently has 4:44 minutes deficit on Voeckler while 4:29 minutes on Andy Schleck. Contador has to make the Stage 19 be his as they will climb Alpe d’Huez. Furthermore, he has to deal not only Andy Schleck this time but also Cadel Evans.
Contador must be within 1 minute distance on Schleck and Evans in order for him to have a chance to defend his title in the individual time trial on Saturday. If he can make the move and gain at least three minutes over Evans, Schleck brothers, he will win the tour. This would be tough for Contador to have that edge because the Schleck brothers will not allow that to happen. But we don’t know how Contador will approach this stage.
If Contador wants to be in in contention, he must drop Andy Schleck and Cadel Evans. He try to attack early in the Galibier and maintain it to the finish.
