Tour De France Overall Standings 2011. Cadel Evans defeated Andy Schleck and Frank Schleck in Stage 20 individual time trial enough for him to capture the Tour de France 2011 title. He was separated 57, and 4 seconds to Frank and Andy Schleck respectively before the start of the stage.
Because Evans has been known to have the advantage in the individual time trial, he didn’t disappointed the spectators. He overpowered Schleck in the first 18 km, the first official checkpoint and gained 36 seconds already. Andy Schleck was reluctant to give up his advantage but in the second timecheck, Evans was ahead by 1:42 seconds of Schleck.
Evans pedaled with energy as he stood on his bike in climbing those small hills. His consistency in the 20 stages made him the chance to win the Tour de France through this stage. Evans have been two time runner up in Tour the France, the same with Andy Schleck. He didn’t rode highly in the overall in last year’s tour but this time he prepared himself with great form and his improved acceleration in the mountains.
During the Tour de France Stage 16 when Alberto Contador made attacks, Evans was with him while the Schleck brothers were left behind. Though missed Andy Schleck’s attacks in stage 18, Evans came through with a nerve-wracking performance chasing Schleck without the help of his fellow contenders, he was alone leading the field. He tried to ask for help but nobody wanted to be ahead.
Evans waited for this opportunity to come from behind the Schleck brothers in the penultimate stage. Frank and Andy Schleck couldn’t keep up with the power of Evans that they lost the Tour De France.
Meanwhile, Alberto Contador was fifth in the overall standing this time around. His dream of getting near Lance Arstrong in the number of titles was derailed when he gave up time in the finish to Galibier. Contador moved to the fifth stage because of the dismal performance of Damiano Cunego.
Ivan Basso ended up 8th place for this years Tour de France.
