Have you heard of the Celtic Woman? When I caught my sister watching their recorded concert, I never hesitated to ask her which among them is the Celtic Woman. My sister replied that all of them are Celtic Woman.
Celtic Woman is a musical ensemble that comprises of five Irish and one New Zealand female artists: vocalists Chloë Agnew, Órla Fallon, Lisa Kelly, Méav Ní Mhaolchatha and Hayley Westenra, and fiddler Máiréad Nesbitt. The group’s repertoire ranges from traditional Celtic tunes to modern songs. To date, the group has released three albums, Celtic Woman, Celtic Woman: A Christmas Celebration and Celtic Woman: A New Journey, and have undertaken a number of world tours.
Here Lisa Kelly sings Caledonia. She is perfect with the voice and the look. I also love their song Scarborough Fair.

Doesn’t it bother any of you that these women are lip-syncing these songs in the video and on the tv broadcasts, and the fiddle player is pantomiming?

To answer your question, first of all I do not know how you know that this lip-syncing is actually happening, I am not too sure it is. If it is, so what! In the world of entertainment there are voice overs, computer photoshope ex…. Have you complained about all that? But as long as it is their voices, and it is, I can live with it. I saw them in concert, and WOW it was awsome. I will never be the same. Eric

I agree they are lipstncing and it bothers me. I went to one of their concerts and was totally disappointed! The fiddle player isn’t playing one lick—just pretending. For the price of the tickets I wanted to see a live performance–not a pre-taped fluff! It amazes me that people actually think the entire show is live. Most all of the music was pre-taped and a lot of the vocals were enhanced as well.

I feel that their entire show is a deception. I didn’t pay that kind of money to sit in the audience and listen to pre-recorded music! I could have purchased the CD and listened to it at home or in the car. When people pay money to see a concert—they should hear what they see! I will not even purchase one of their CD’s after attending the concert. The concert wasn’t even moving because a true musician could tell it wasn’t happening.

I agree with Philly. I think that lip syncing is a total cop out. I can understand some vocal enhancement if they were dancing and moving around like crazy, but they’re freaking just standing there. They don’t move their bodies, arms, or even their faces. What are people paying for when they go to the show? Couldn’t they just have cardboard cut outs with a little mouthpiece moving? Isn’t that basically the same thing? Or how about a movie screen draped in the front of the stage and have their images projected on it?
If you want some beautiful music with a beautiful woman actually singing celtic music, try Sinead O’Connor. She does a lot of modern stuff, but she’s also the real deal.
Or Kate Rusby does actual traditional folk songs as well as modern stuff. Actually sings and plays guitar.
The Celtic Women are really bothering me. But, again, I think it goes to show that people just are too lazy to really care about spending some time to find and understand true talent. I don’t doubt that these women have talent if they actually do the recordings they are pantomiming to, but part of the beauty of a live performance is hearing the nuance, or the little imperfections here and there that make it organic.

Love the sound and sight of Celtic Woman, but I agree with other comments, it does look like lip synching and annoys me too.

Mairead Nesbitt was in Riverdance and was a former champion for Irish Fiddling. Lisa Kelly was also in Riverdance, a lead soloist. Meav and Lynn were members of Anuna. If I’m not mistaken, so is Orla. And Chloe has been performing for quite a while. With backgrounds like these, I find it extremely difficult to believe that these beautiful and talented young ladies would lip-synch.
Trust me, I’ve been to their concerts before. They’re not lip-synching. It sounds nothing like the CDs they’ve released. Whether you want to believe it or not, that’s up to you. I will always remain a fan.
