In a 2 hour finale that was filled with fanfair, drama and some of the best performances ever by top ranked celebrities, Jordin Sparks beat out Blake Lewis to become the next American Idol. Ok, so maybe that’s a bit of a stretch but Jordin did win as she deserved to. I like this win too, given how bad the season was overall and the fact I didn’t like Jordin when she auditioned but she quickly converted me when the top 24 started. It was a wonderful progression to follow and she should do pretty well in the future.

That said, the finale itself had to be to most boring thing ever. It was worse than last year. The only highlight, aside from Jordin winning, came when Clive Davis dissed Taylor Hicks. I loved it. Here’s what Clive had to say.

“So here’s this year’s report card for the American Idol album franchise. The big news has been the huge explosion of Chris Daughtry. Yes, Taylor Hicks’ new single of ‘Heaven Knows’ can still take him and his platinum album much further. And the new single ‘Love Story’ can still do it for Katharine McPhee. But it’s been Daughtry who’s broken through as the entire music industry’s biggest selling artist of the year.”

I love it, 2000 units being sold a week, certified Platinum on sales he’ll never achieve what a crock. Just goes to show even Idol believes the guy shouldn’t have won, and for the Taylor fans out there that still refuse to believe that, deal with it.
