The Amazing Race: All-Stars - Teri & Ian Eliminated

The sixth leg of Amazing Race All Stars see teams heading Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania. Once at the airport all the teams had to wait for the agency to open but it appeared all flights had to go through Johannesburg enroute to Dar Es Salaam. Charla & Mirna found an early flight but had to didn’t have connecting tickets in Johannesburg and the other teams believed it too much of a risk and waited to see what else was available. As it turned out, they all ended up on standby in Johannesburg but before the other teams could leave Mozambique, Charla & Mirna had landed, found an airline attendant to help them work out connecting tickets, got on a flight and were off to Dar Es Salaam.

This was pretty wild because the teams are really stretched out. It takes and additional three flights to get all of the teams out of Johannesburg putting the last two teams nearly a day behind the leaders. Once in Dar Es Salaam teams had to travel by boat to the island of Zanzibar. Boats left 3 hours apart an could carry two teams at once. At first I was concerned this would bunch everyone up again, which is so annoying. I think if a team is willing to take a risk to get an advantage and it pays off, they shouldn’t forfeit that lead waiting on a boat or a flight or some attraction to open.

In Zanzibar the teams encounter this legs detour, a choice between two tasks. In “Solve It” teams must put together a puzzle that’s based on local artwork. In “Schlep It” the teams had to load two 50 lbs logs onto a cart and deliver it 1 mile to a shipyard. All the teams except Dustin & Kandice elect to do “Solve It” and the queens think they made the right choice in electing to do “Schlep It”. It would be nice if the show did a better job with time management. Show us how long it took each team to complete a task, it’s hard to gauge if they would have beaten Uchenna & Joyce or not but the site of the two blondes all sweaty in the back seat of the taxi… um.. yeah!

After completing the detour teams race to Kikungwi which is also on Zanzibar, so not a great deal more travel is involved. Once in Kikungwi one team member must complete the roadblock called “Toss Rungu”. Here a team member had to use a local wooden weapon, called a Rungu to break a clay target by throwing across a field. Again, it would make it more interesting to know exactly how much time each team spent on a particular task. After completing the roadblock, teams raced to a place called Old Fort which was the pit stop for this leg of the Amazing Race.

Charla & Mirna who had a substantial lead, were actually caught by Oswald & Danny while waiting on the boats for Zanzibar. Because of the three hour difference in departures of the boats, it was really a race between these two teams and Oswald & Danny managed to get ahead during the detour. On their way to the roadblock they decided to stop and “go shopping” which allowed Charla & Mirna to get back in front and ultimately allowed them to arrive first at the pit stop. As much as these two annoy me, I got to give them props. At the time, that was a huge risk to take and it really paid off, they deserved to be rewarded for it.

Oswald & Danny arrive second while Uchenna & Joyce arrive third but have to wait because they were marked for elimination and had to incur a 30 minute penalty. So we know the blonds took much longer to complete their detour task because they were more than 30 minutes behind these two. Uchenna & Joyce are allowed to check in, still in third place and Dustin & Kandice arrive in fourth. Eric & Danielle arrive in fifth which I think almost twelve hours behind the first teams, Joe & Bill arrive sixth with Teri & Ian arriving last and thus being eliminated from the Amazing Race All Stars.
